Town Hall Project Reference Group

Published on Monday, 2 November 2020 at 10:00:00 AM

Council, at its October meeting, reiterated its support for the future use of the Town Hall to be in accordance with the community led direction following an extensive period of consultation, including written submissions and community workshops. The Hall will transform into a multi-purpose facility comprising:

  1. Community based historical projects to capture and display the diverse history of the area.
  2. A flexible space in the central hall component focused on rotations of art / craft workshops, additional historical displays, community pop up markets, stalls and events.
  3. A tourism / visitor space

The next exciting step is to commence planning the design and costs for the proposed uses. A Reference Group is being formed to guide the detailed planning, future operation and prioritisation of resources. As well as including representation from Council, staff and a number of community groups, one position is available from each of the following:

  • Aboriginal Community
  • Local Business
  • General Community

The primary role of the Group is to:

  1. Develop a plan and design for the interior of the Hall
  2. Prioritise and cost the refurbishment and relevant components
  3. Have input into the ongoing operations of the facility

The Group is expected to meet for the first time in December, with regular meetings throughout the first few months of 2021. Further information, including the Terms of Reference for the Group is available to download below.

If you are interested in participating in the detailed planning for the Town Hall, prioritising the refurbishment stages, and having input into the ongoing operations of the building, please submit an expression of interest by Wednesday 25 November 2020.
